Backcountry Hunters & Anglers are a national organization focused on the preservation of our public lands, and actively involved in conservation efforts and creating public access for hunters and anglers. The Colorado chapter is hosting a pint night at Storm Peak Brewing Company on October 17th. This event is a great opportunity to learn more about Backcountry Hunters & Anglers, various conservation issues and projects, win prizes, and meet other local outdoors men and women. They have been very supportive of Rocky Mountain Sportswomen’s efforts, and we would love to see a huge turnout from our local Steamboat ladies!
She Jumps is a national, non-profit organization focused on creating more opportunities for women to get outdoors while building confidence, leadership skills, and connecting with nature. They have linked up with Steamboat Flyfisher to host a women’s only fly fishing clinic on October 20th from 9am to 4pm. As a fellow supporter of women in the outdoors, particularly with hunting and fishing, we love to help promote events like this. If you’re a beginner fly fisher, or want to get started, this is a great opportunity to learn alongside a handful of other women! Click below to register and for more information. Space is extremely limited!
THIS TRIP IS CURRENTLY FULL. However, if you would like to be on the wait list in case a spot opens up, please contact us!
We are SO EXCITED to announce our first weekend trip as Rocky Mountain Sportswomen. Bridget Fabel, a huge female influence in the hunting and fishing world, recently started her own fishing guide service in Utah. Chunky Trout Outfitters is the only female owned and operating service in the state. Bridget has invited us Rocky Mountain Sportswomen to come on a two-day trip with her this September! She is giving us a discounted rate, and will get us hooked on some tiger trout if we’re lucky enough! Check out her YouTube Channel and see her awesome hunting and fishing videos!
We are limiting this trip to 6 ladies for this inaugural event. We will be leaving in the late morning of September 6th and camp out for the weekend. We will be fishing with Bridget in the afternoon hours of Saturday, September 7th, and all day September 8th before we make the trip back to Colorado. This is an incredible opportunity, and spots will fill up fast. Though the trip is during our archery season, I think it will be work sacrificing one weekend of our hunts for this opportunity.
If you are serious about joining us on this trip, please send us an email with the form below to obtain more information on pricing and details. We only have a couple of spots left, but want to make it the best that we can!
THIS EVENT IS CURRENTLY FULL.
Now that summer is in full swing and winter is just about out of sight (hopefully), the wildflowers are in full bloom and the trails are ready for hikes! We are excited to announce our first group hike on the Mt. Zirkel Loop Trail, also known as the Zirkel Circle. Leave the kids at home with your husbands, but dogs are welcome, if they’re up for it! This is a more difficult hike as it is 10.3 miles with 2500 feet of elevation gain. Hunting season is around the corner, and we need to get our legs ready.
The trail head is located in Clark, Colorado, just about an hour from Steamboat. If you would like to read more information about this hike check out this All Trails link to read more about it and see some more photos!
We will be meeting at the Steamboat Springs Wal-Mart parking lot at 7:00 am on Sunday, July 28th. We will be car pooling to the trail head. If you are participating, please RSVP below and let us know in the message section if you would be interested in driving, or if you would just like to ride along. We would like to have everybody RSVP’d by Sunday, July 21st, so that we have time to coordinate carpooling and such.
Please come prepared for a full day outing with water, snacks, proper footwear and layers, and a positive attitude. This will be a fun day of hiking, exploring the wilderness, and bonding with your fellow Routt County Sportswomen. If you would like, you can bring a fly rod for the trip and test your luck in some of the high alpine lakes and streams along the way.

We are excited to announce our Fly-Tying Pint Night! If any of you ladies have been wanting to learn how to tie your own flies for fly fishing, or could use some advice from some experienced guides, join us for a fun night and learn with us! The event will be held at Storm Peak Brewing on May 15th from 6 to 8pm. Not only will we be having a great time learning to tie flies together, but we will also be doing it for a cause. All of the flies that we tie that evening will be donated to the Colorado Chapter of Project Healing Waters. They are a non-profit organization that focuses on the physical and emotional rehabilitation of disabled active military personnel and wounded veterans through fly fishing. Be sure to check out their website to learn more about this great, National organization!
Folks from some of our local gear shops including Steamboat Flyfisher, Yampa Valley Anglers, and Straightline Sports have been gracious enough to lend us their expertise, vice grips and tools, and different materials to use for tying. There will also be several giveaway items at the event! Cant wait to kick off this spring fishing season with you ladies over a couple of beers and some fly tying!
This event is FREE! However, space and materials are limited so PLEASE RSVP below as soon as you can to reserve your spot.
Ladies! Get ready for our first outing event! Stagecoach State Park has graciously reserved 20 Ice fishing poles for us to use for a day on the ice together. Whether your a pro ice fisher, or have always wanted to go, come join us for a fun day together! If you have any of your own gear, feel free to bring it along. The staff at Stagecoach State Park just asks for us to help provide bait for the day. If you have no idea what kind of bait to bring, don’t fret! I’ll be purchasing some meal worms and jigs for us with some of the money we raised at our meet & greet. We are always accepting of any monetary donations to help support our efforts and future events we would like to host for you.
If you do not already have a parks pass for your car, please note that you will have to purchase a day pass at the office, as well as a fishing license if you don’t have one already. Since the new year for fishing licenses begin on April 1st, this is a perfect opportunity for you to renew you license for the 2019 season anyway! Here is a link for more details on the fishing license fees:
This is absolutely a kid-friendly event, if your little ones are up for it! Nothing more inspiring for the future of fishing and hunting than going out with their mamas! Dogs are also welcome, but please remember that dogs are required to be leashed at the State Park, even on the ice.
Also note that this is a tentative plan. For it being fairly late in the season, there’s a slight chance there may not be enough ice on the lake to go out safely. I will be in touch with the park staff about ice reports the week of the event. In the case that there isn’t enough ice, we’ll just turn it into a regular fishing day! I will keep you ladies updated with any changes that may occur.
I look forward to fishing with you ladies! Please RSVP below, so we know how much bait to provide. Contact me with any questions you may have. 🎣
Hello Sportswomen of Routt County! I am proud to announce our very first event as Rocky Mountain Sportswomen! Come join me and other like-minded women who love to hunt and fish for a little happy hour with cocktails, mocktails, appetizers, and GIVEAWAYS! This event will be a great opportunity for us to meet each other, share some ideas about what we would like to do together, and officially establish our new sisterhood. My intentions with this group are to learn from each other in order to become successful hunters and anglers, all while creating strong friendships and going out in the field together.
If you have any questions, or would like to help be a part of the planning process, please contact me! I look forward to meeting you all. ♥
