Bringing Women Together in the Field

A Rocky Mountain Sportswomen Duck Hunt Recap

Last winter when I went on a women's snowshoe hike with Rocky Mountain Sportswomen little did I know the relationships it would build.

Elena (founder) and Jamie (co-founder) have welcomed me as an ambassador onto the team and I couldn't be more excited to help build a welcoming, judgment free community of women to hunt, fish, camp, hike, adventure, learn and grow together.

One day a few weeks back Elena texted me seeing if I wanted to join a waterfowl hunt with her and Jamie, along with Erin and Annie who they had met through social media.

Of course I said yes!

This was Remi's first hunt and honestly her first introduction to guns. She handled it like a champ and just as it became legal shooting light, Elena blasted a duck and Remi, upon command swam out to retrieve it!

Erin, who is only on her second duck season, did the calling on this frosty morning hunt and she crushed it! As Erin says, "I'm just a nerd about it." @bigfootwrangler

Shooting into the morning sun had it's challenges, but as we laughed and got to know one another we were once again reminded it's not all about the kill.

It's about wearing fun face paint. @_anners

As we watched the ducks fly in and out, we felt the warm sun on our face as it shinned bright over the far mountain, and we talked about how we wouldn't want to be anywhere else, except here.

And for myself, the greatest reward was watching Remi learn.

Despite the negativity around social media, I 100 percent believe, that there is so much good that can come from it, this hunt is proof of it!

As an ambassador of RMSW I hope to help educate and welcome women into the field with us. Myself, along with Elena and Jamie are constantly working on planning new events and clinics. Be sure to subscribe to our email list for notifications on upcoming events, and follow us on Instagram and Facebook.

It's safe to say I am addicted to waterfowl hunting. Growing up in a hunting family we never pursued waterfowl and when I moved to Colorado I wanted to learn, but without the knowledge and gear I felt intimidated and didn't want to slow others down.

Until I met Rocky Mountain Sportswomen.
